Abstract

There are lots of models and theories trying to explain diffusion, adoption, acceptance and use of Information and Communication Technology. “Unified Theory of Acceptance and Use of Technology” (UTAUT) has been improved by unifiying the variables of the theories and 8 different models (Venkatesh et all 2003). UTAUT is able to account for 70 percent of the variance in usage intention. The aim of this study to examine teachers’ usage of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) based on UTAUT . Thus, the usage of ICT in teaching-learning process will be studied in many areas. For this reason, the perceived usefulness of the UTAUT variables, which are the perceived ease of use, anxiety, social factors, self efficacy, facilitating condition and voluntariness, were studied as to whether the instructors routined the UTAUT use logically or not. The research group consisted of 427 teachers from six cities in Turkey. “The acceptance and usage scale of the Information and Communication Technology” was developed to collect data. Rotational Principal Component Analysis was used for constructional validity. Principal Components Analysis results indicated that 34 items were grouped under eight factors. These are 1) intention, 2) perceived usefulness, 3) perceived ease of use, 4) anxiety, 5) social factors, 6) self efficacy, 7) facilitating condition and 8) voluntariness. They explain %73,73 of the test points. The coefficient reliability of the scale was calculated as 0.91 with Cronbach α The results overall indicate that teachers’ perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, social factors and self efficiency have significant effects on intention to use ICT. These four determinants explained 65 percent of the variance in user intention to use ICT. Perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use are the most important fundamental determinants.
