Abstract

The aim of this study was to examine the validity and reliability of the Future Time Perspective Scale (FTPS), which was originally developed by Husman & Shell, (2007), based on the samples gathered from Turkish undergraduate students. In line with the aim of this study, the factor structure of FTPS was investigated through exploratory factor analysis on the sample of 406 undergraduate students and also investigated through confirmatory factor analysis on the separate sample of 315 students. As a result of the exploratory factor analysis, the four factors emerged; connectedness, value, extension, and speed. However, it was found that the reliability coefficients of connectedness and value were fair whereas it was observed that the reliabilities of extension and speed were inadequate. As a matter of fact, the result of the confirmatory factor analysis showed that two-factor structure as connectedness and value, but not the four factor-structure, was confirmed. In addition, it was observed that the reliability coefficients for both factors were satisfactory. In conclusion, a valid and reliable scale, FTPS with connectedness and value dimensions, was obtained. Future studies and educational implications were also emphasized in the study. sss
