Abstract

In this research, A scale has been developed in order to decide upon the general attitudes of students toward their schools. An initial form consisting of 38 items was administered to 300 students and the data gathered from the administration was used for the factor analysis. As a result of factor analysis, three factors emerged, consisting of 33 items and accounting for the 48 % of the variance. The Cronbach Alfa of the -33 item scale- was calculated as .94. The Cronbach Alfa coefficients of subdimensions were determined as: .85, .84 and .85. The method followed in a test construction (selecting items among the written essays, the experts review about the written items) is an important factor for obtaining content validity. Besides the results of item analysis depending upon the mean differences of 27% upper and lower groups are the evidences for the validity. It was evident from the results that the scale called “An Attitude Scale Toward School” can be used in the field of education as a reliable and valid instrument.
