Abstract

The purpose of this study was to adapt the Internet Addiction Test, developed by Young, into Turkish. Research participant group consisted of 250 undergradute students from Ankara University, Faculty of Educational Science, Department of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies in spring semester of 2005- 2006 academic year. In the frame of adaptation process, firstly test items were translated into Turkish and provided experts’ opinions from five experts in the field of Computer Education and Instructional Technologies, Psychological Counseling and Guidance Departments and English, translated test were developed in accordance with these opinion. After the conclusion process of translation, scale were implemented to participant group which has experience of taking lesson via internet before. Exploratory factor analysis was conducted to examine the construct validity, and the internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach Alpha) of the test was used for scale reliability. As a consequence of these analyses one item was removed from the scale, due to decrement of reliability of the 20 items test. The final version of this scale consisted of 19 items under three factors. The scale with 19 items under three factors explained 52.83% of total variance. Factor loading of the items ranged between .398-.811. The internal consistency coefficient (Cronbach Alpha) of the scale was .895. Calculated values indicated that the scale that was adapted into Turkish were valid and reliable.
