THE EFFECTS OF THE HOME-BASED EDUCATION PROGRAM IN ACQUIRING AND MAINTAINING TOILET TRAINING FOR MENTALLY RETARDED CHILDREN

Abstract

General purpose of this study is to assess the effects of The Home Based Parent Education Program About Daytime Toilet Training in acquiring daytime toilet control of the children with mental retardation, and to evaluate the program as to intervention reliability and social validity. The design used in this study is “AB design” which is one of the single subject experimental designs. The subjects of this study are three of mentally handicapped children. To collect the data, preliminary assessment form, family interview form, the recording forms of child’s urinates, the forms of intervention reliability and social validity were used. All phases of the study were implemented at children’s home. Mothers were trained how recording child’s urinates and how they apply the intervention of daytime toilet control to their child and then they have studied with their child. At the end of the study all of 3 subjects have gained daytime toilet control. Data of the study were given in graphs and the graphs were qualitatively interpreted.
