Abstract

The aim of this study was to test the construct validity Cicirelli’s scale of ‘‘Purdue Self-Concept Scale for Preschool Children ’’ for a Turkish sample on children aged between 5 and 6. With this aim, the original scale with 40 items, implemented on 140 children from preschool and first explanatory factor analysis was performed. 24 items were eliminated and with 16 items data was collected from 183 children from preschool. Factor structure was confirmed by using confirmatory factor analysis. Results of explanatory factor analysis showed that the total varience explanied with four factors was 52.13 % . The items were in the same factor were consistent according to their content and the factors were called “social competence”, “academic competence”, “physical competence” and “mother accepetance ” respectively. The four factor structure with 16 items of POBKÖ that was yielded from EFA was confirmed with CFA. The results of CFA showed that goodness of fit indices produced good values. Internal consistency reliability of scale was found satisfactory. Factor structure of the scale POBKÖ which has sufficient construct validity for Turkisch preschool students aged beetween 5 and 6 was consistent with literature. sss
