THE REVIEW OF SCALE DEVELOPMENT AND ADAPTATION STUDIES WHICH HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED IN PSYCHOLOGY AND EDUCATION JOURNALS IN TURKEY

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the scale development studies, which have been published between 2005 and 2013 in psychology and education journals being indexed in TÜBİTAK Ulakbim National Database, in terms of scale development steps and principles, and to investigate the adaptation studies in terms of scale adaptation steps and principles. This study is a document investigation study being in scope of qualitative researches. The sample of study consists of 50 papers which have been chosen with stratified random sampling method from scale development and adaptation studies, which have been published between 2005 and 2013 in psychology and education category journals being indexed in TÜBİTAK Ulakbim National Database. 29 of those papers are development studies, 21 of papers are adaptation studies. The review forms developed within the scope of study were used in order to collect the study data. The percentage and frequencies of obtained data were calculated. As a result of study, it was determined that the rate of information reported in accordance with review form’s scale development steps was 67% in scale development papers, and that the rate of information reported in accordance with review form’s scale development principles was 40.19%. It was determined that the rate of information reported in accordance with review form’s scale adaptation steps was 45.58% in scale adaptation papers, and that the rate of information reported in accordance with review form’s scale adaptation principles was 26.79 %.
