Abstract

In this study a scale on the level of coping with educational stress for ninth class was developed: Coping With Educational Stress (CES). The research group consisted 729 adolescents who were on ninth level at high schools in Ankara. Construct validity of the scale were studied by principal component analysis with varimax rotation. As a result of this analysis, it has been found that the scale consists of three factors (1. studying and preaparing for exam; 2. affective and behavioral dimension and 3. responsibility and duty dimension) which explain %39.67 of the total variance. And in order to discriminate two groups who got the highest and the lowest scores were tested by using t-test. As a result of test it has been found that groups are significantly discriminated on each item and the total. Realiabilty of the scale was tested by internal consistency (Cronbach Alpha Realiabilty Coefficient, for total scale .77, 1. factor .79, 2. factor .52 and 3. factor .38) and test-retest (total scale r = .67, 1. factor .59, 2. factor .51 ve 3. factor .50; p. < .000). Results show that the psychometric proporties of the scale are moderately significant. As a result, this scale must be used for decision about the individual. In general evaluation it can be said that the scale is forwarding on the development for new scales on this dimension.
