THE ANALIYSES OF PSYCHOLOGICAL SYMPTOMS AFTER THE EARTHQUAKE WHICH WERE SEEN TO THE CHILDREN WHO LIVE IN THE EARTHQUAKE AREA ACCORDING TO SOME VARIABLES

Abstract

The aim of this study is to investigate the psychological symptoms after 42 months later from trauma, which were seen among the children who experienced the Marmara Earthquake on August 17, 1999. Research participants are from 360 (150 boys and 210 girls) 7th and 8th graders in an elementary school in Adapazari. The data is collected through "Short Symptoms Inventory" which is developed by Derogatis (1992) and an information data form prepared by researcher. The t-test and F-test were used to analysis of data. The results of the study indicated that except sex differences, anger and hatred psychological symptoms, all psychological symptoms are statistically significant. Moreover, girls have more symptoms than boys and the students who have a loss in family have scored higher. According to results psychological symptoms keep on in spite of elapsed time and girls were more effected from earthquake than boys.
